Atlas GP38-2 question (NS)

I recently picked up two Atlas GP38-2 shells. One high hood and one low. I noticed differences in the long hoods between the two. Particularly around the DBs. I haven't found where Atlas makes any reference to different phases so what's the poop?
Both are in NS livery.

I think Atlas made the -2 in NS High Hood in the first release.

I triple-double checked the Atlas site. There are pics of both and they are different in the pics. Both have the sight glass on the long hood.
The high hood was on the first release. The long hoods have different part numbers too.

Extended range DB on the Hi-noser?
I am assuming yes as it is longer than the low nose, but why no differentiation by Atlas I wonder?

High Nose GP38-2s were only made for SOUTHERN, so the model has details specific to that road.
