color match - UP armor yellow on Kato SD40-2

Got a color matching question.  I stripped a bunch of these with pine sol and want to "bring them back" with a thin layer of armor yellow...additionally some have mark 4 88in short hoods with brakewheel.  Does anyone have a color match suggestion?  I'd like to stay with some form of armor yellow but I know they get pretty varied...

I've used Scalecoat II Armour Yellow in spray cans, but then, I don't model the UP.  Whether it looks "right" I have no idea, but it's been sold for decades, so must be popular enough.

Years ago, I did a bunch of color matching with paint samples compared to a freshly shopped SD40-2 Snoot sitting in the Riverdale yard, with permission.  Scalecoat 2 U.P. Armour Yellow was the closest match and Floquil Armour Yellow wasn't even in the ballpark.

The next year, I notices a really faded U.P. engine (I don't remember what model) sitting in the Ogden Yard, so I hurried home got my paint samples again, and this time, the Floquil Armour Yellow exactly matched the really faded U.P. prototype Armour Yellow!!

My decision is to paint closest to prototype freshly shopped colors, which for U.P. are both Scalecoat 2 U.P. Armour Yellow and U.P. Gray...I don't believe Scalecoat calls it "Harbor Mist Gray" but it's really close to freshly shopped U.P. prototype Harbor Mist Gray.

Scalecoat is shiny, which I like, and covers very well, so you don't need a thick coat of it.  Dullcote over it is just fine if you want to dull it down, but only after the enamel smell is gone.

i guess what this really comes down to is poly scale armor yellow, floquil armor yellow, or model flex armor yellow... normally i use floquil primer on my models...i'm shooting for a really thin and hopefully glossy look.  thoughts?

On the Mark 4 nose, is the brake wheel on the wrong side?  Looks like it's on the engineer side.  Or is it just an odd spot on the mech or nose?

you're seeing the screw that holds the frame/mech together.

Doh...

Wonder if Mark or anyone else would be willing to do an 88in nose with ratchet brake.

For what it's worth, my 2001 Scalecoat order form shows the UP colors as S22 "UP Yellow" and S32 "UP Harbor Mist Gray".  S33 is "UP Dark Gray", whatever that might be.  For their two-tone gray steam-era scheme, maybe?  S84 is "UP Hopper Car Gray", but I know you don't want that one...

FYI I used Poly Scale armor yellow on a Kato SD40-2 patch job because it DID NOT match the Kato yellow. I wanted it to look like there was a difference between the old paint and the new patch.

Thats an interseting question - I'd pose it to him...he's done a number of one-offs for me including those hoods and -2 corrugated radiator screens for some GP40s (take a look at FEC 408, 403, 410).  its cheaper than buying a whole shell just for the short hood and the grab holes are already drilled...
