Found some old pics that date back to pre children days of my horribly oversized layout,











This is from the time of no internet, when if you didnt have a club or some friends that did it too all you had was pictures in a magazine. At the time I thought it was pretty good. Now I know it was a horrible design with limited possibilities and my ability to build trackwork and benchwork was far behind my thought of a good plan.

Hey, got to start somewhere. 

My first layout with my Dad was a 4x8.  A simple oval, with a passing siding for the depot, and a turnout that went to two spurs.  We then extended the passing siding, dropped it while raising one end of the oval, and it then went into a "staging yard."  I think the ruling grade on that extension and the oval went up to 3.5%.  It was a hot mess!

Still lots of fond memories of that layout.  It got us really moving in the hobby instead of just getting the box of trains out for under the Christmas tree.
