Model Railroads of Southern California’s thirty-seventh layout tour takes place on March 8, 9 and 10 (Friday-Sunday).

This will be a self-guided tour of twenty-five layouts at twelve locations in Bakersfield, Lake Isabella, Tehachapi and the High Desert. Most of the layouts are in the Bakersfield area and twelve of these are within the Golden Empire Historical & Modeling Society’s Train Show.  The Train Show is March 9 and 10 (only) at the Kern County Fairgrounds.

Twelve layouts are appearing for the first time on our tour program including Denis Dunning’s OO scale St. Mary Meade Railway. For those unfamiliar with this, it is British prototype, built to 4mm scale (1/76), but operating on HO gauge track. This is used almost exclusively by modelers in the British Isles.

Other first-timers include Louis Lave’s HO scale Camden & Amboy Railroad, Patrick Ray’s HO scale D&RGW Arbor Division, Al Sandrini’sHOn30 Dixie Creek Central and eight of the twelve layouts at the Train Show.

Altogether there will be twelve HO scale layouts, five N scale, four O scale, two garden railroads, one OO scale and one Z scale.  Of these there is one HOn3, two HOn30, one On30 and one Lionel layout.

This is a free event and you may bring relatives and friends. The basic information for this tour is displayed below.  If you would like layout descriptions and a tour map showing the general locations of all layouts e-mail me OFF LIST at: chiefbobbb@verizon.net

Persons taking this tour assume all risks and liability for their personal safety. Although I am the Moderator of this group, I am not responsible for personal loss or injury to persons taking this tour.

If you cannot make this tour more tours are scheduled including:

•   Long Beach-South Bay – May 18
•   All Southern Calif. – September 1
•   Central Coast Railroad Festival – October 10-14
•   Banning Train Festival – October 19 & 20

Layout tours for 2014 are now being considered and a 2014 tour has been scheduled as an official event of the PCR/NMRA Convention in San Luis Obispo.

Come to Bakersfield and enjoy a great train show (http://tinyurl.com/awjylw8) and see a lot of nice layouts, too.
