Would this class tender be behind an L1?

No.

A nice etched wrapper would fix that shell

Yup.  8)

No.

sorry dave but i found a picture in pennsy power that shows a lima built L1 in 1917 with a tender that looks just like the one behind my brass H10 so if you model that early it would be possible!

The rendering lines are nearly a deal killer...  But if I ever do start my next H-class kitbash I'll be considering it.
The photos of it aren't very good (I mean the photos aren't clear enough, not that the *model* isn't very good!), but do you mean all those horizontal lines between the horizontal rows of rivets?

This same guy has a WM Maryland H9 done already and I am looking to get one. Do you think, from his photos and renders, that there is any real printing issues with it, aside from the visible printing steps?

i bought one of his WM H 9 shells and it pretty good. what i don't understand though,is the desire to print all the fine detail, pipes, handrails etc. i have bought a number of n scale items off of shapeways and some are really nice, the barnhart loader for one, others are best used for a wreck scene. the railing, steps, piping are easily broken or arrive broken.  in the case of this boiler shell it will all have to be removed to cleanup the segmented surface of the shell. with the surface quality we are getting at this time,i think it is a waste of the designer's time to do the detail stuff. i have done a prr lines west tender shell to fit the bachmann tender and except for the walkways along the coal bunker,i left all other detail off. i have had a couple of test prints done and want to make a couple of small changes yet,but it willl be an easy shell to clean up and finish using the methods we use now.

As built they had 90F66 tenders which were short, but still not the same as the 55F-- tender the Shapeways one looks like.  By World War II essentially the whole class had received the familiar 90F75 tenders with mechanical stokers.

Very interesting, but one side comment....   I "browse" shapeways all the time under miniatures > model trains - and I've never seen any of this guy's models. I also know that I can search for my own stuff and not find it all.

Users are also guilty of not even bothering to point out the SCALE on most items.  Of course this is no biggie for IPOD cases which seems to be the #1 seller, but come on!

Shapeways desperately needs a better schema for describing / attributing models.  There could well be other stuff out there that you just can't find because of their lousy search/catagories.

If you type in H9 or Western Maryland in the search box of Shapeways home page, you find it quick. I usually browse Shapeways by searching N Scale and clicking the sort menu to newest.

True enough, but it would be nice to be able to browse "n-scale",  spur-n,  n-gage, n-gauge, n --->> all at once...

For example "n scale" delivers 500+ results,   "n-scale" delivers 102 results
