Atlas n scale VO-1000-got it figured out-I think

Hello All,

I have an Atlas N Scale VO-1000 (The original China version). I had installed the NCE decoder. When selecting the locomotive with my UT4-the indicating light acted strange. It didn't show green nor red. It kinda flashed in between the two colors- kinda hard to explain. Both locomotive lights are on---and respond to the on/off button. I then tried to call up the locomotive on my DT400-- another strange code...just above the address (where the speed indication is) it reads "cn". Any thoughts as to what could be causing this-? Oh- I did run the locomotive on my DC test track- it ran fine (with the new decoder). It also appeared to program fine(Using JMRI). I do have 3 other VO-1000's- they all work as they should.

I did "not" consist this locomotive. At least- I don't think I did.

CN I'm pretty sure means consist.

If you have decoderpro, it would be easy to look it up and see what it was consisted too.

I'll be checking it out again tonight. I know I didn't consist the darn thing--but--I may have inadvertently have done it (through decoderpro).

What's interesting--this is the second decoder I've installed into this locomotive- with the same simptoms happening both times. The first decoder (which smoked) was a TCS. I ran the locomotive on my test track (which is DC)- it ran fine. I put it up on my shelf-one week later, I tried the locomotive again (haden't touched it in the mean time) as soon as I turned up the throttle--poof- the smoke came out. Very strange.....

I think we've figured out my issue----pretty embarassing...... I must have at some point in the past consisted the darn thing- and- obviously forgot that I had. As my command station did not forget.

Easy enough to take it out of consist on a Digitrax system. Simply select the address on your Dt400 or 402. Press MU then the N/- button. It will be out of consist.

For more drastic situations, close option switch 36 in the command station. Instructions are in the manual.

The command station will always keep consists in memory.

BTW, I've seen no issues with NCE or TCS decoders operating on Digitrax systems that were not caused by user error.  (I also read the Digitrax Yahoo group)

No sweat- with removing it from the consist. Now that I know what I had done. Again- pretty embarassing.. Oh- well. I also run TCS and NCE decoders with no issues at all. Other than something I've done incorectly. All of this has been user error--mine!!!  Live and learn.

Not embarrassing at all - it is called a learning experience!      You were also nice enough to follow up with the group (so others can learn too).
