Good evening,

Since we're only two weeks away from BC  RPM an update seems appropriate.
The "meet within a meet"  will take place Saturday,
November 12th, 2011 from 10AM-4PM and will again be held in
conjunction with Trains 2011 at the Cameron Centre in Burnaby, BC as
part of a weekend of model railroading activities. Clinics covering a range of
prototype and modelling subjects will be held on both Saturday the
12th and Sunday the 13th. Please note that new clinics have been added**

These types of events are participant driven so remember to BRING YOUR MODELS!
New for this year will be a show and tell where modellers will
be offered the chance to talk a little bit about their own modelling.
This will also be a good opportunity for those who might have heard a
little bit about prototype modelling to listen in and learn more about
the techniques and resources employed by local modellers.
As some of you might well know, TRAINS can be a very busy show. To minimize
conflicts space is being found within the clinic
schedule to allow BC RPM participants a common meeting time for the show and
tell portion of the meet.

As usual, ALL SCALES and ALL ROADS are welcome. If you've been working on
something, be it a structure, diorama, freight car or locomotive, in-progress or
finished, bring
it out and participate in a friendly and informative afternoon.

Besides the RPM meet and Clinic line-up, TRAINS 2011 has a lot to offer
enthusiasts. The PNR 7th Division meet (Trains 2011) runs from the evening of
Friday, November 11th through Sunday, November 13th and features operating
sessions, a public show, model contest, escorted layout tour, prototype tour and
Sunday evening banquet.

Hi Folks,

Just a reminder that BC RPM is only a couple of days away.
The meet runs 10AM-4PM on Saturday November 12th. All roads and All scales are
welcome. If you built or are building something bring it. Unfinished models show
construction methods as well as finished ones.
Cost for basic registration is $20 CDN and that covers RPM, clinics and public
show.
As ususal the RPM meet will be held upstairs in the Hemlock room of the Cameron
Centre as part of Trains 2011.

A show and tell will take part during the lunch hour.

Images from past meets are available at the following address.

I hope someone will be taking and posting pictures of the model, irregardless of which scale the model is.

Oh yeah. I love looking at pics from these things.

I still need to get to one at some point.

Ed, if you can make the time I would highly recommend it. Though I love to look at pictures too, seeing models in the flesh is always somehow much more rewarding- for me anyways. The chance to meet the modellers in question features similarly. Besides, prototype modelling meets are desperately in need of new recruits and fresh ideas. I would submit that the concept is up for review- that modelling meets, prototype or otherwise, are always waiting to be shaped and that your participation where possible is key.

I'd like to thank everybody who came out and supported the fourth
edition of BC RPM last weekend. The modelling was as good as ever and
the turnout was higher than in past years - we even had our first
American participant which was nice. This was the first year to
include a show & tell session during the lunch hour and it seemed to
elicit a  positive response so there's a good chance we'll include it
in next year's program. Thanks also to everyone who brought supporting
documentation. Although probably the result of a well attended
national earlier in the year, the build sequences captured on camera
were almost as interesting as the models themselves. I would encourage
this practice for future meets. If you have any comments, questions or corrections
please feel free to ask at ahutchinson.mudbay at gmail dot com. Below
is a link to some of my images from the weekend. It is worth
mentioning that I forgot my tripod Saturday morning and the resulting
images were little short of disastrous. For that I apologise to the
participants. Hopefully for next year's meet we'll be able to arrange
for a proper photographer to capture the models in all their glory. In
the interim mine will have to do. Included in the set are a series of
images taken Sunday morning from the show floor focusing on the PGE
BCR modellers table, a few of the contest table and Brian Pate's
beautiful marine setting of Point Ellis, B.C.

Roger, the kilt is a PNW thing - there's a place in Seattle called Utilikilts that makes them in dozens of fabrics and colors (I think the one in the pic is a Utilikilt).  They are thus fairly common up there - I have colleagues who wear them regularly to work.

I live in the Pacific NW and I've got to say in that 26 years, I may have seen one or two men wearing a kilt in that time.  It's not that common.
