Need repair/decoder installation help!!!!!!!

Ok guys, here's the deal. I seriously screwed the pooch on this one and am hoping someone will be able to help me out. I tried to install an M1 decoder in a Tomix Thomas the Tank Engine and now when I put it on the track my PowerCab reads short detected. I have no idea what I'm doing and even though I followed the directions as closely as I could I still managed to screw this up. Is there anyone out there who is good with this kind of thing who would be willing to help me out?

pictures would help a tremendous ammount. I have a older Thomas I decodered, but because of the piss-poor pickup I ended up making a little boxcar that he pulls around with pickup on it, and installed the decoder there. My daughter don't mind, she calls the boxcar "Mr. Dirty" and he is one of anna and clarabell's friends. Oh to be 4 again.

I haven't done a Thomas yet, but I've done a number of close quarters installations.  The key is to make sure everything has enough room.  No pinched wires, use shrink tubing instead of tape... that sort of thing.  If everything's in there comfortably, you typically won't have a problem.  Unless of course, you've wired something bass-ackward.

Also, it's helpful to attempt a readback on your programming track after each step of the installation to make sure you're doing everything right.  Never just plop the thing on to full track power without checking the read back first...  You've probably blown out the decoder.  Replacement under warranty is pretty easy, but at this point, Thomas won't be chugging around the Christmas tree if that's the case.

I am hoping that a few of the guys from my model rr club can help me out, and if not a few friends have offered to have me send it to them and they will fix him up. I just wonder where I went wrong. Anyway, our tree won't have any trains of any kind around it for a few years yet since I have an 18 month old little girl who still needs to learn about how to handle trains and a completely ******** german shepherd who would most likely chew it up. He is an awesome dog, but sometimes I think he's not all there lol.
