Writing CV 17 and 18 ?

Good day all,

Suppose I have set CV29 on a Digitraxx or TCS decoder to accept 4 digits adressing, how should I write CV 17 and 18 ?
For instance, if my choice of adress is 1234, should CV 17 be written 12 and CV 18 be written 34 ?
Or the opposite ?

Thx in advance for your help,

Marc

That's great, thanks a lot John !  8)  ;)

BTW, while reading some past thread around this issue, I noticed it was
recommended by some to modify CV 29 for 4 digits addressing only after writing CV 17 and 18.
Would you confirm this ?

I use JMRI almost exclusively for programming my decoders .. if that is an option, I would encourage it .. saves a lot of problems ..

Program CV17 and 18 first. After that, turn the long address "on" by programming the CV29.

Thx mmyers !

Should I try to write the long adress with my throttle first, in case the command station could modify CV29 directly ? (I use MRC Advance 2)

You could try it first with the throttle. It's quicker. I only write CV17, 18, and 29 directly if the normal programming method doesn't work. Most times it just works.
