My First Serious Weathering

Well, I have practiced on and off with some old HO models, not looking at any reference, they have come out pretty ugly. This is my second N scale attempt, my first with reference photos. Here are the links to the reference photos.

I spent about an hour and a half on this project, nothing really fancy, just added some roof exhaust. I plan on start using washes soon. The materials used were a small paint brush, some dull cote, and AIM weathering powders. Enough of my rambling, time for some photos.


Not really diggin' the speckle look on the exhaust.

Looks good! I'd expect a lot more on the pilot/trucks/fuel tank. You might also want to get some black or grays for the exhaust stack as that tends to get more black/gray than brown.

You are a little heavy.  I would also add some rust and dirt to the trucks and fuel tank, for sure.

Does it look like a brown? Because the AIM weathering powder sure looks black to me. It even says black on it. lol

Must be the lighting, seeing as the sill striping looks tannish brown in the first shot.

Yeah, maybe I can make that look better when I know how to work with a camera lol
