That is a LOT of horsepowers...

And that poor kitty GP40-2 is probably quite out of its element there.

i came up with 31,400 horsepower.  the kitty is not out of it's element - the West End is steeper than that and B&O had been power pooling with the SP for years - you could find SP units in Cumberland.

Sweet, and a ton of horsepower!!

It looks like this is the grouping
SD40T-2
SD40-2
GP40-2
SD45
the tanks
SD45-2T
SD45
SD45
SD40T-2
SD45T-2
SD45

So if that's right, I came up with 33,600 horsepower
Vincent

If N scale had good SD40-2s, C30-7s, U30Cs, SD45s, SD40s, and SW10s; I'd be in N scale.

Good candidate for BLMA following on the single road release (and success) of the Top Gon.

Please make many. I'll take the simplified logo on the tank train though, but one or two sets of this scheme for good measure :-)

i missed that those were 45-2 tunnel motors - yup 33,600 HP - of which only half would be working at the top given SP's track record ;)

Could be more horsepower than that.  The video cuts out before you see the end of the train.  Any rear-end helpers?

I always wanted to know - what makes these "oil train" tank cars so special?

they are connected together and can be loaded and unloaded with a single connection - no need for local switching to put the individual car under the faucet.  the last car is only 3/4 full and the cars are purged with nitrogen - this clears the connecting hoses and fills the last car.

I found these hanging out at the GATX plant in Masury, OH. You can see 3 of them right above the rectangular open shed:

I used to live near the SP, but it was on the plains in central Texas so no helpers. I'm not familiar with SP operating practices with helpers, so you might be right.
