I re-shot the photos on Atlas code 55 track so that track gauge issues did not imply an issue with the wheels.

These look really good to me. Another "option" that we now have.

I wonder if MTL is going to offer these in brown????

Now if they could get it set up so that we have the roller bearings on the axles to turn within the trucks... now that would be awesome.

No, I'm here.  I've been doing double shifts the past few months and haven't had the down time to chime in here.

The wheels will be standard issue before Spring and the others will be offered in bulk packs to those who still want them.  I want to thank all of you who tested these out for me, I respect the folks on this site because you are all hard cases and won't let anything slip by.  If you all say it's just OK, then I know I'm on to something great!  :o)  As for colors, yes, brown for sure.  I am looking into new mixes to try and get something with a rusty metalic look without causing havoc with the DCC guys.  And Dave, I have a new batch of 33" Wheels I will send to you.

Thanks again

Joe

Wow, a rusty "look" would be great, that's why I prefer the "brown" to start with, and then add whatever.

To have a rusty/weathered look right out of the package would be very cool indeed.

Is it me or does the tread look narrower, too?  I really like the looks of these.  And I'll second the motion for a rusty metal blend...  Nothing conductive of course.

That leaves Atlas's offerings looking a little short now...  Actually, a lot short!

Coming up with a convincing rusty brown would be a definite coup.  But don't stop with the wheels - trucks & couplers too!  Painting Derlin, only to have it wear off over time is a drag.

Don't forget any color you get will still be shiney so they can get it out of the mold.

The thing is, real wheel color varies considerably, especially between wheels on roller bearing and solid journal ("friction bearing") trucks. So any pre-molded color would have to be a compromise. And then there's the treads and flanges; they'll be shiny black or brown or grey or whatever, which is never going to look "right."

Typical wheel color for a solid journal truck:

MTL should include a coupon worth 40 wheels in any new car . The buyer could redeem that coupon at a participating hobby shop , or directly with Micro-Trains .
