I decided to get cracking on the Pella Depot that I purchased from Brian last week as I again have run out of track....So while the order is on the way here its time to start building kits as the layout is gonna need LOTs and LOTs of brick buildings!
This depot is used as the Tomah commuter rail stop, the 3 stop westbound from the city center of the layout.
The following shots show the progress as of now. I still need to add the station signs and do a more weathering. The weathering on the roof only has its first coat and still needs 2 more washes and some chalking. The station was modified so that it does not have the bump out on the station (Much like Dave V has his), and the platform has been removed will be replaced with a cast anchor bolt cement foundation and passenger platform. I also shortened one of the chimneys and removed the other one. The other chimney has been replaced with a radio antenna. I still need to paint the antenna, and build its mounting base over the roof peak and add guy wires. Other misc details still need to be added as well.
The bare brick was sprayed with Dullcoat and then the bricks were colored with different shades of colored pencils. The colors were the sealed with Dullcoat again, and then gray chalk was worked into the mortar lines. ModelFlex primer gray was worked into the mortar lines to seal and mix with the chalk. The walls were then again sprayed with Dullcoat.
I ended up having to make my own shades as the decals in the Walthers kit were messed up as they printed directly to plain paper without the decal layer...so they ended up not being decals like the instructions said. I used some "psych ward" green scrapbooking paper cut out to resemble shades. I still need to add shade pulls.
The widow above the center door was cracked with an Xacto knife.
Well 2 buildings down....about 1500 more to go!
