Hi All,
It's taken me way too long to finish this and get around to taking & posting these pics, but anyways, here is my detailed & weathered HO scale Athearn Genesis SD75M. This was originally ATSF 226 but I re-stenciled as BNSF 8208, and it is one of my first attempts to model a specific prototype unit. This has a pile of detail parts from Details West, Details Associates, A-Line, and others. Handrails, cut levers, and various pipings are handmade from phosphor bronze wire. I used Athearn's factory grabirons, tho they are a bit heavier than I care for. One of the more noticeable omissions on this kind of loco is the lack of sanding hoses, but I didn't want then to interfere with truck swing. Weathering is a combo of washes, acrylics, and airbrushing. I've also installed QSI sound and Sargent couplers. (I really like A-Line's photo-etched steps)
Sorry that these pics aren't the greatest (I need to think about a new camera that's better at closeups). Maybe it's my lighting, but the weathering on the model actually looks substantially heavier in person than it does in the photos. I was concerned that I had overdone it a bit, esp. the roof, but then I had seen some prototypes that had gotten pretty grimy. (More recent pics of #8208 show that she had finally gotten the cleanup that she deserved.)
As always, please let me know your feedback!
Regards,
Ed
