Today we are in Quebec, Canada, on August 4, 1956 (or was it 1916?) visiting one of the last interurban railways in Canada, the Montreal & Southern Counties.

M&SC double-truck Birney 13 at the former St. Lambert suburban station. By this time the M&SC no longer crossed the St. Lawrence into Montreal proper, ending the station's use.


M&SC heavyweight wooden suburban car 101 running parallel to the CNR main line at St. Lambert, PQ.


M&SC snowplow/freight motor 300 won't see much service in August! It probably never plowed snow again...

Back in 1989, the WMRHS held a joint convention with a B&O group from Ohio at Cumberland.  Part of the festivities included a back shop tour of the B&O/Chessie/CSX shops, a hike through the remains of Maryland Jct. and Knobmount, and a ride on the Allegany Central, the predecessor to the WM Scenic.  Here's a few goodies from those halcyon days of yore...


A Chessie GP-30... more than likely operating under its own power for the last time before being gutted and turned into a slug.


The tower operator at Cumberland Hump.  Obviously thrilled that 30 sweaty, drooling goons with cameras around their necks were looking over his shoulder...


Saw a little love over at the sander...  Fortunately I got this shot before all the WMRHS faithful licked all the paint off of the car...


I can't remember if this was a ready track or a deadline.  It's always so hard to tell with Chessie power...


A freshly defiled GP-30.  I guess 89 was the height of the Stealth years.


Here's the excursion train crossing over from Ridgely.  It was a beautiful morning to be sure...


Finally, we got to slobber all over CSXT 6573.  The convention was held jointly with a bunch of B&O foamers from Ohio, so CSX managed to round up a blue beater for them to hold hands with.  At this point, 6573 was the last engine on the CSX roster to still wear its original WM paint.  An inscription on the battery box says so...


And there I am, there on the front steps looking like a game show host.  Somewhere in the Bottomless Drawer of Junk in the kitchen, I'm sure there's an unprocessed roll of film or three from the rest of that weekend...  I wish I could find the shots of the caboose dead line at Knobmount.  There were also a few buildings still standing then that are no longer there.  I'm sure the film is useless by now, but who knows...

Was in Fredericksburg, VA Saturday to attend a family reunion.  Stopped at the Amtrak station and got some shots.  I saw 2 freights on the way there but couldn't get any photos.  Amtrak 95 was just heading South when I pulled into the station.  About 3 minutes later the Auto Train headed South:



A Northbound coal train went by when my back was turned:


And as soon as it cleared Amtrak 97 came Southbound:




The food service attendent was catching a quick smoke.  Asked me not to show his face:


It's no wonder CSX has so many derailments.  Check out the loose spikes at the station:

Was able to do some night-shooting out at Duncannon Saturday night with some CRHS goons, as one of our members had purchased some more portable-daylight that he wanted to try out:

Some goonery with the CRHS guys as we finish the plans for the Convention. Little did we know that NS had one heck of a show ready for us...

Sunday we were checking lighting at various locations along the Photo Tour Route, and got this...

Here they are coming into the yard at SO. 60,000 HP!!!


Here's the ill-fated 10N at SO. He had to stop with his helpers just past here as one of his helpers died.
He also had a piece of banding dragging, which the head end conductor had to take care of.


Here's 10N again about to split the signals at Summerhill. This shot was about 2 hours after the shot at
SO, and is only a couple of miles from there.. Poor 10N...

Finally, 67Z pokes his head end out of Gallitzin Tunnels heading west in the afternoon sun. This will be the final
