Over seven years after the last streetcar in Atlanta stopped running, Georgia Power Company still switched its power plant off Northside Drive with this ancient box motor. Taken Dec. 26, 1956:

Next week, the rest of the photos of 704.

Stuff from last week.

Camp Douglas / Tomah / New Lisbon, WI

Erie PA

Elyria, OH

* For some reason a lot of these turned out crooked or blurry... I thought I was shooting level but I guess not. I guess the not sleeping for 3 days and driving 22 hours straight pretty much killed my eyesight and balance.

Caught a beauty tonight...  A Conrail survivor...  This is a CSX GP38-2 in intact pre-Quality CR paint coming off the old Durham and Southern line (we paced it from western Cary, NC) passing the depot in Apex, NC.

These shots were taken by my wife with her iPhone.  I have some high-res shots I'll upload later.

Oh, and a Conrail covered hopper w/ NYC reporting marks in the train:

Good hunting tonight here in Apex, North Carolina...  In a few weeks I'll be shooting UP in Nebraska with not a blue unit in sight, so it was nice to have a Conrail finale!

How long will it be before they show us how to add DCC to a tree?

Here's that Conrail GP38-2 last night heading southbound about 3 miles north of Apex, NC on the former Durham & Southern line along Davis Dr:
