I've join the exercise on MTW site to model ACF but the one I picked has unique doors. I've never scratch build anything to this point so this is fun for me.  I'm working on the doors now and I'm still looking for a roof shot to match the roof of the Acurail model. I'm sure I can find one soon. I do like the edge of the roof in the first photo but I don't have any better shots of that one.

Here is my Prototype:

Here is the scratch door at this point:

The top of that is a Youngstown door. The bottom looks like a Superior, but I'd bet it is shop built. I wonder what happened that they had to do that?

Speaking from experience, doors can be notoriously difficult to obtain because of long lead times and they're pretty expensive to boot.  If you can rig something up that'll get the job done and get the car back out there earning revenue, that sure beats holding it for months waiting for a door to come in.  And, if you've got 2 doors that are otherwise unrepairable, but you can chop the damaged ends off and put them together, you save yourself a purchase.

Thanks guys.  I'm working on 3 more right now and I hope they turn out even better.

Tom - So tell me more about this book?  How detail do you plan to have it, I hope better than the ones you see today.  I would like to see details on things like how you did the scratches on the the coil cover and all that.  Oh yeah, will it cost a million?
BTW: I like the graphic you edited and I still like it after you did your edits, maybe more.

Jeff - You are far from a hack, I've seen your work.
