from sunday:

Near Martins State Airport, MD

they moved the cars that were involved in the accident in Rockville when they put in the road over pass - the MARC cars were under the tarps for years to keep them hidden from the public since people died in them.  i have no idea what happened to them when they were moved, but those cars were right next to them...

Lee:
The trip I took was from Wash, DC via the B&O to Philadelphia and return.  Actually keep on time both ways.  Wish I would have taken a photo of the crossing in Phila where the trolley line and the B&O cross.  Think it's the only place in the USA where this happens.

One hundred years ago it was common, at least around here.

Wes, did those "ear flaps" with the stars on them that are found beside the headlight on many Indonesian steam locomotives have any purpose, or were they just decoration? I've always wondered.  ???

Smoke deflectors. Some North American locos had them too - CN did in the 1940s anyway.

?? ?? ?? Are you referring to "elephant ears", like this?

I certainly wouldn't say they resembled "ear flaps" on a Winter hat, nor are they beside the headlight. Note that the Krupp Mikado has both "ear flaps" and "elephant ears".

Now, tell me which North American locomotives had those odd shapes right beside the headlight, please!

Sorry, I see what you're talking about. I thought you meant the smoke deflectors on the side of the one engine.
