What color was the Mary Lee?
interesting how the scheme compares to the successor road:
It seems to me that both NSes used N&w's scheme as a starting point.
Colour for the revenue cars, like the one above, was Pullman Green with Deluxe Gold lettering. I'm unsure as to the colour of the business cars, but there is speculation that it was similar. I should be certain here shortly.
I didn't realize there was an "original" Norfolk Southern until I did a little digging. Kind of threw me for a minute there.
It existed for nearly one hundred years until bought be Southern. It officially ceased to exist as a separate entity on 1st January 1974.
http://www.norfolksouthernhs.org/history.htmlNow you know that when I talk about NS steam, I don't mean the steam used in excursion service. I mean F1s hauling fast freight through North Carolina and into Virginia. I mean double headed E3s hauling heavy freight uphill west of Wilson. I mean D1s and D2s hauling crowds of happy vacationers down to Beaufort at the height of Summer and returning with loads of fish.
Of course, Baldwins falling into the sound also comes to mind
