DCC sound in DC

Every time I ask about sound in DC I am told it's possible to run a DCC locomotive with DC.

Now I have a On30 2-6-0 on the way and I want to add synchronized steam sounds, but run it on DC. What DCC equipment do I need for this? Can I just buy a sound decoder and run it in DC mode? Does it need programed? because I'm not buying a DCC "system"

I just want cool chug-chug sounds with my caveman power pack.

How do I do it  ???

The decoder has to have DC backwards capabilities, other wise you are SOL.

Is that a common thing? (backwards DC)

I sent an E-mail to Soundtraxx, see what they say.
