Life Like FA-2 Drives

I have the attention span of a tse tse fly... can someone remind me if the Life Like FA-1 drive is the same size as an FA-2?

It seems to me the 1 is shorter, but I can't seem to find any of the 2's for sale anywhere. I got a pair at the big blow-out BLW had a while ago, but I need two more drives for an FA-2. If the drives are interchangeable, I'll just get a set of 1's...

Are you talking about the 1st gen (feeder wire hell) ones, or the 2nd gen split frame ones?

Split frames.  I already successfully converted an old shell to a new drive, and the taste for blood has left me hungry for more...

There's a pair of WM FA-2's (old drive) I've been eyeballing, and they close today.  If I can use new FA-1 drives, I can add some more helpers to the fleet.

Lee,

The FA-2s have a longer frame than the FA-1s. Same general layout, but the split frame is longer.

The question is moot.  I placed my bid 15 minutes before it closed, and some punk skunked me in the last minute.  Maybe next time.

Well, for future reference, the old-run shells will fit the new-run frames with a little bit of work. The LL FA-2 chassis is noticeably longer than the LL FA-1. I grabbed a couple of each out of the box and gave it a try here...

(FA-1 drive on top)

Here's an FA-1 on left, and an FA-2 (old shell, new drive) on right. A little bit of metal will need to be filed away from the FA-2 chassis, and a means of attaching couplers will have to be found, as the old ones have truck-mounted couplers and the new ones are body mounts. This shell is simply set on the frame as-is for the photo.

Hope this helps.

Already did one like that.  I was hoping to do two more.  I was working on laying out the new numbers for the ones I bid on when I realized I lost it with just seconds to go.  Damn vultures...
