Upgrading Kato SD80MAC marker lights?

Anyone have any thoughts or experience upgrading the marker lights on Kato's SD80MAC model? I picked up one in CSX and planned to paint the marker lights to highlight their presence... then it hit me that such a nice model should have at least red lenses or even operational marker lights.

Would love some feedback from folks that might have taken on a similar project.

shawn,

you and me are in the same boat. i model CR in HO scale, and i use the M.V. products LS-18 lenses. it is a set of 4 clear and two red. the red ones fit the nose markers perfectly. they do a decent job on the rear too, but you may like a size smaller. the red ones fit the nose, so that the round housings can be painted silver, and the markers can be made to fit in the correct "recessed" fashion like the CR 80macs had. paint them silver first, inside and out, and then add you lenses carefully, and make sure they are straight and level, using CA glue with a slow dry time. if you need to see pics of mine, email me off list. good luck! if you model the CSX 80MACS, just glue the lenses in, no silver paint needed.

Matt,
Why not share a photo with all of us. ??? Just because this is an
N scale forum does'nt mean that we would'nt want to see work of
others in the other scale. :D

Matt,

Are your marker lights simply the lens for effect or wired and operational?

shawn,

just an effect. but i am thinking of drilling out the backs of the lenses, and running fiber-optic line to each from the LED.
