model railroading and mainline modeler are ceasing their operations soon. these mags have fallen victim to the high costs of publishing in this day and age. there will be no credits issued to subscribers from what i have read. who's next?

I don't like to see any model railroading mag go under-blah!

But I have to admit seeing the subject line made me wonder.
There were "watering holes" for railfans/model railroaders & I
missed checking them out? (brings a new meaning to the term
"highball")  ;D

They're not "Crown Victorias"-they're known
as "Police Interceptors"

There used to be a real "railpub" "watering hole" in the Terminal Tower - Cleveland Union Terminal complex in Cleveland many years ago. It was called The Transit Bar. It had several r-y-g three light block signals, but most interesting was the barback, which was a huge display case full of "O" scale trolley car models. Every Midwestern interurban and city transit system had a model in there, including every type of car used by the Cleveland system. Often wonder who built them all...and if it's still there.  ???

Cleveland Union Terminal

Any walks downstairs to see Erie trains? or was that before Erie moved into the CUT?

The latest issue of "The Diamond" as a bunch of aerial photos of Cleveland in the 1950's

I worked for the PRR in Cleveland as its Traffic Dept. Rate Clerk from May to December 1964 and rode the Shaker Rapid to and from work every day. Don't think the E-L still ran a train to Cleveland then. PRR took its last one off in August 1964. When I was promoted to Baltimore I had to go to Canton to board the train.

Some of those aerial photos show PRR lines, one shows the PRR station across from municipal stadium. One photo shows EL headed out of CUT in 1963. Another has EL going in from Youngstown on 1976. Says they operated passenger trains from Cleveland to Y-town until 1977, they only made one stop on the way in Warren (where I live).

Erie had a station right to the West of the CUT and moved to CUT in 1949. The CUT was home of Erie/EL headquarters. The Van Sweringens owned the majority of Erie's stock, they also owned CUT so had Erie HQ moved there. The HQ remained there until Conrail.

A while back I rode the rapid from Warrensville Heights to Tower City Mall (was CUT) I didn't know at the time the area had a thing to do with the Erie.
