ESU 58751 LokSound 5 Micro In IM tunnels

Has anyone had luck installing the ESU 58751 LokSound 5 Micro into the older IM tunnel motors?  It is listed as a drop in decoder for pre 2016 IM motors but I haven’t seen any installed. Has anyone done one?  Any issues?

I have done the 7300?? the v4 boards. The only issues / concerns I had was IM has super tight frame tabs, had to slowly work them to accept the ESU board and with the AUX location I removed a little of the frame towards the back just under the decoder to allow wire room. Not sure if that helps any.

I have installed three ESU 58751 in IM SD40T-2s. They work great with the caveat that the tabs from the motor need to be lined up with the pads on the underside of the decoder (pain in the butt) and the on-board LEDs are far away from optimal placement for bright lighting in front and rear light. Also, the front light, rear light and aux pads are on the bottom of the board and do not have resisters associated with them. See this tread for detailed info on the decoder. There is room for a 9x16 speaker with no frame modification needed.

No, the front and rear LED headlights pads (for installing standard 3mm leaded LED) *DO* have on-board resistors.  Only the AUX3 and 4 do not have resistors on-board (but it is easy to add a small SMD resistor in series with those outputs).

OK I think I may just pull the TCS boards in them now and custom hardwire a small lokpilot.  Sound isn't too important and I wished ESU would have made a non sound board in the same foot print.

The only "de-sounded" narrow-board ESU produced so far was when they took a LokSound V4 73199 and made it into LokPilot V4 54650.  But the footprint is different from the 58751. However according to the description it should fit some IM models.  Unfortunately, it is out of production.

Won't fit the older tunnels.  already confirmed that the width is narrower and won't align with the frame tabs.

Like I said this is a dead end and I'll probably just hard wire a 59816 with some of the SBS SMD LED boards for lights.

Maybe even a look at Zimo.

I installed a 73100 board in an IM SD45T-2 which, by all accounts, has/had the exact same footprint as the 58751 board....

The IM SD40T-2 and SD45T-2 share the exact same drive.

I don't recall having to fuss with the contact tabs on the frame to get this to fit, but it's been a while since I did this.

Zimo doesn't make those types of light-board replacement decoders, but if you want a wired-in decoder ZIMO's motor control is on par or even better than ESU.

It's going right over your head.  I am not going to do a light board replacement.  There will be no light board.  Just the decoder wired to screws in the frame and motor tabs.  Don't get stuck on a replacement board!   :D

Well, you started this thread asking for a plug-n-play light board type replacement decoder.  I understand that you have since changed your plan, but I just mentioned that Zimo does not make those types of decoders to make it clear for anyone looking at this thread at a later date.

If you mean me, I'm sorry. Hopefully I clarified my answer. My brain seems to work differently from most people.  :D

No, not you. The OP inquired about the drop in board, received feedback that it should work fine but then seemed to indicate no intention of using a drop in board at all. Unless I'm misreading things.
