Bachmann Consolidation Drive Rod

Hi everyone,

I recently picked up Bachmann 2-8-0 consolidation off Ebay, one of the original DCC ready versions.  Got it out to test, and the drive rod on one side is bent, causing the mechanism to bind.

Going on the Bachmann parts site, and they have parts borken down by the model versions (DCC Ready, Sound Value, and another category.  The only place I can find replacement drive rods is under the Sound Value version, and they only sell them with a full driver replacement set.

My question is whether there is any difference between the drive rod and drivers on the DCC ready (original) version and the Sound Value version.  I would think they would be the same, but wanted to check here before ordering a replacement.

Umm don't look at the sound one, look at the original pre 2017 (it's a Spectrum) - prices are much better

The above link should give you everything you need to repair your loco. I've bought a ton of these parts over the last year for a super secret project :)

Hi Al, I saw that link with the cylinders and the eccentric rod, but it doesn't appear to include the main drive rod connecting the wheels.  I don't see it listed under the pre-2017 link.  I do see it here under the sound value version:

Does the link with the cylinders include the main drive rod?

Hi Mike, Sorry my bad. I thought that was included - now I'm in the same boat as you and will have to buy a driver set just to get the main rods

If the rod is just bent (not broken), can you just straighten it?

It's bent pretty badly, so I would rather just get a replacement.

I guess I'd have to see it, but usually you can place these on a nice flat plate of metal and tap them all along one side with a small hammer, and then flip and repeat, to get them nice and flat again.  Tap just hard enough to flatten it out.  You don't want to start "peening" it or causing it to widen or distort.

This is what I do.

I have a carcass in my paets bin.
I already pulled one side rod from it.  Which side to you need?
