You’re welcome, sir.

You may also find Pete Johnson’s How To’s helpful:

JMRI can be very simple if you want it to be ..

Bring a car with a load to the industry you want - -- it automatically changes the load to empty and makes it available to go elsewhere -- unlike the car card system, JMRI will move cars around sort of like the railroad .. if you want an empty box car, it schedules one to go to the industry.  If you have a load, it will send it to another industry (even off layout ie staging or storage) that can accept that  load ..

Initially start simple - JMRI has a sample layout .. play with it .. don't be intimidated

Well, I'm starting to warm up to the JMRI idea.  I've gone over the tutorial links that Tad_T provided and I think this just might work.  It's still quite a lot to take in but I'm slowly getting to understand it.

Once you get through the setup it works surprisingly well.   The best advice I can give you is to stay simple with it out of the box .. don't worry about advanced features such as schedules,  % of time the cars are filled, etc ..    Just get the cars built into trains .. and then you can add features as you find you need them ..

Oh, and by all means join the groups.io for JMRI, or one of the facebook groups .. there is one called JMRI Operations Only https://www.facebook.com/groups/1915501095427261

David Haynes did a nice tutorial on the basics of JMRI Ops that can be found here:

https://rcairgallery.com/stuff/Using-JMRI-Operations-A-Worked-Example.pdf

I would like to be able to print these off and use them with the layout to better learn how this works.  I only need David's explanations, not all of the replies.  How do I do this?
