Large flatcar loads

I've uploaded one free and two paid 3d files for large loads.

First one is a 40m wind turbine blade, found here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6515472
It is split into two large parts for easier printing.

Second is a pipe reel load, found here: https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/game/1-160-pipe-reel-load

This is a quite delicate part to print as the sides are separate for easier printing.

Note that these are a slightly higher detailed version than the link goes to; the linked version does not require any extra materials such as 0.9mm styrene rod for the small accessory pipes. If the high detail version is desired, I can upload it.

A couple of notes: the reel load has on the bottom a small hole that should fit a toothpick or similar, to help make painting a bit easier.



Most of the ports on the pressure vessel load are keyed so that they fit only one location.



Additionally, it is designed to sit at an angle on the car:

Most of these are geared towards 115 ton QTTX 132000 series flatcars but I have seen the side loaded turbine hubs on 146000 series XTTX flats. I should add that the pressure vessel loads at least are dimensional and do require some extra clearance: ask me how I know...

Sam @samusi01 I can tell from you're other posts you've got a lot on your design and print plate at the moment, but based on the quality of your loads here and the 100t flat cars, can I tempt you to tinker with another needed load type - coiled wire (double) loads? I've reached out to Hay Bros in the past but they aren't able to cast these to appear hollow and haven't been too interested, meaning a 3D print may be a better option.

  • Trainworx 52' gondola


There would also be an option for a variant to suit a bulkhead flat, and having such a load (with support) for the nice Exactrail version or the future Scaletrains version would be cool:

Thanks for the note - I can take a look at these, but the priority is going to be pretty low - there are a lot of projects that have been backed up as the 100 ton flats clogged things up.

I don't know that anything 3D printed could look better than taking some super fine wire, creating a jig, and making a bunch of coils.  Anything resin cast or printed would have to be thick just for structural support.  And since the coils are so visible, it would be difficult to hide the thickness.
