The E-type was the first car I remember being seriously taken by.  I was maybe 6 years old - there was a small Jaguar dealer a few blocks from our house and I could see into their repair shop as I walked by.  Oh my what a pretty car!  My parents got me a Matchbox E-type in lieu of a real one (bright red).

Same here; the first model must have been a present, and I later bought a second with saved pocket money.  (1960s IIRC).  We turned them into the police cars on our "layout" by painting the doors white...

My first Jaguar XKE was the old Aurora model with the Delta Dagger on the box with the car and a couple of pilots looking it over. My next one was the old Thunderjet HO XKE. Never could afford to buy a real one!

Oh man, the E-type has remained as my most admired car, from the very first time that I saw one as a kid, at least some 60 years ago.  Absolute design perfection.  Well, that, and the Porsche 550 Spyder.  Be still, my heart!
Doesn't it have Lucas electrics though?  But yes, a beautiful car!

Of course, it does! Explains why it is in the repair shop so much.

My brother also had another 64 XKE back in the mid 1960's, and I remember it being in the shop quite often.

A coworker had an E type as his restoration hobby car.  Once it was roadworthy,  it still spent more time on axle stands and with the hood removed than it ever did on the road.  Gorgeous to look at, but the epitome of unreliability.

I have a couple of friends who tore out all the Lucus electrical components and replaced them with Ford components.  "Down time" went way down !  Reliability way up !
