I went on the Australind from Perth to Bunbury and return on Tuesday 14th November, as it is due to retire this weekend after 36 years in service. The Armadale suburban line in Perth is closing for 18 months to undergo some upgrading works (grade separations, new stations, new signalling system, etc), and when it opens again in mid-2025, there will be two new railcar sets for the Australind service.

Last time i went on this train service, it was 1985 or 1986, and still hauled by an X class diesel loco with wooden bodied rolling stock. I thought I had better ride this one at least once before it left service.

Cheers,

Matt
