Milkshake Oil in Las Piedras Canyon, CA closed in 1999. The last oil-producing derrick in Las Piedras County, CA. Operations and drilling moved to Bakersfield.

Probably would not even notice it if viewing this on your layout (which I hope to see some day), but the photo sure draws my attention to the oversized platform rails and ladder on the old tank car.

Wow I've been looking for a place for this for years. It's one of the toy non-operating tank cars, that was lettered for SP. I
never noticed the rails and ladders and will fix them.

. . . better modeling through TRW peer pressure.  :D
I agree that the scene in your photo looked very life-like, but the thick plastic square cross-section handrails and ladders jumped out.

I mean, if we’re being honest…is a former tank car just going to be sitting on the ground?

Cue up Billy Joel's "Honesty". I am pulling and going with small vertical tanks. I got the idea from M.C. years
ago he had one on his Alameda Terminal.

If it's sat there long enough, any wood under it may have rotted away!

And, if the car was acquired, but never used, by the new owner, it may have been left where it was sitting when delivered.

Search for Gold Medal Models etched parts for MDC tank cars.
