You no longer eat it?  We are on the top of the food chain - you should just enjoy yourself until octopuses (or is it octopii?) figure out a way to wage war on humans.  :-)
Your theme-appropriate avatar also gave me a chuckle.

Nope. Can't bring myself to do it.
I know, it's dumb, but I allow myself a few dumb moments from time to time.

How about calamari?  Those battered deep fried rings (or tentacles)? Or do you consider those to be too close to the octopuses?

Actually what you are doing is not all that dumb.  From all those vegetarians or vegans out there, many do not eat animal  flesh because their views are that it is cruel to kill animals for food. especially farm raised animals.

Nah, squid are dumb.

In fact, one of my favorite dishes is Mama Nina's Balsamic tossed calamari. Get yourself some during next year's N Scale Convention!

How about Komodo Dragon (or maybe turkey) ?

Seriously - it's not dumb to make decisions about what food you will or won't eat, at least not if you have options and your immediate survival isn't in question.  You don't even need a well-founded rational.   [ I'm not counting choices to eat things that can actually hurt you - like perhaps a live octopus.  That's definitely dumb, if you know in advance ]

When I was a kid I passed on the opportunity to try whale (it was legal in the US at the time, and we frequented a restaurant that had it on the menu).  It just didn't feel right to me, even then.   Sometimes I wish I had gone ahead, but if I had I'd almost certainly still feel uncomfortable about it.

As a kid growing up in Europe - my grandfather would regularly bring home horse meat sausages - its not uncommon - I never developed a liking for it ..

Same here.  Growing up in Poland  in the '70s my grandmother used to serve horse meat sausages.  IIRC, horse meat was cheaper than beef, and easier to get in Poland at that time.  I seem to recall that the meat was more red than beef, and it had slightly sweet taste.  But my memory is a bit fuzzy.

Horse meat cooks differently than beef. It stays "redder," when cooked.

So is that why Fast Food Burgers 'Look' Red even though they are cooked beyond recognition?

I have a mind like a steel trap...a VERY rusty, old steel trap.
