Vimeo Linking Broken
« on: July 17, 2022, 03:57:01 PM »
I tried pasting in the direct link and it keeps rejecting it with "Not a valid Vimeo video". Strip the {tt} codes off the following and see if you can get it to work.

Note: Images linked in my postings are on an HTTP server, not HTTPS. Enable "mixed content" in your browser to view.

There are over 1000 images on this server. Not changing anytime soon.

Works for me without stripping any formatting codes off.  Kind of a shaky camera hand there...

With the TRW Vimeo tag: Not a valid vimeo URL
With URL tag: https://vimeo.com/427572257

I guess Mike wanted to embed the video in the message

Sorry, I misinterpreted.  I see the same problem if I try to embed a vimeo file.  Do you know if it ever worked here?

Yes. It used to work fine. I had a few threads with embeds documenting things like the track cleaner, on-board video, and signals. I just looked for several of them, and yes, we have no bananas working Vimeo embeds now. The whole feature seems to be broken.

Could it be a change at Vimeo, such that their site can no longer be embedded?

Possibly. They do encourage embedding, however. Here's their HTML for it:

<iframe src="https://player.vimeo.com/video/451365834?h=a6b80535e6" width="640" height="564" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; fullscreen" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Here's another method with our forum software, {vimeo}https://vimeo.com/451365834{/vimeo} (braces instead of brackets to show the code):

Not a valid vimeo URL

Still doesn't work, obviously. Vimeo may have changed something, but if so, accommodating the change is likely on our side of the fence.

Still broken. I've been seeing the same thing from others' posts with attempted YouTube embeds as well.

That type of change would be part of the BB Code that the forum software supports ..

I'll look into it. A big forum software upgrade is in the works!
