I just got the announcement this morning that Dwarvin Enterprises has been acquired by Trainz.com of Burford, Georgia.
These are the folks who sell fiber optic lighting systems and supplies.

Sometimes you can catch them with their pants down, they have so many auctions that once in a while they underprice the market, but it's rare--they very much ere on the side of caution, to be diplomatic.

Always defending the seller.  I have no personal experience with Trainz, but from what I read on the Internet (well, in this thread), I am not planning on dealing with them.  Plenty of other sellers/vendors out there.

I've had no issue with Trainz.  I keep an eye on eBay, Model Train Market, Trainz, and the N Scale Supply used markets.  eBay has been able to drive up prices overall on collectibles.  Great deals are rarer.  N Scale Supply has the best prices, but smallest selection.  When something of interest pops up it's months between purchases.  Model Train Market and Trainz are the newest form of used dealers, buying up big collections, understanding the markets, and driving top dollar through selection and big audiences. 

They all have their place.

I'm still astonished that in marketplaces like ebay, old N scale cars that went for $3.00 or less new and still go for maybe $5 at train shows somehow are priced at $12+shipping  on eBay.

Ebay is not the place it used to be for private sellers. First, they take 13% of the cut and ~$1 just to post it. Second, they take taxes. Third, they force you the seller to use their bank (sellers must provide their checking account for all fees and receiving money regardless if you the buyer paid through Paypal). Fourth they do not make it easy to price your product according to market (i.e. "Buy It Now" price must be over 30% of the asking price). Fifth, their costing tools for shipping are terrible and do not reflect USPS, UPS or FedEx accordingly (it's often wrong unless using UPS flat rate boxes).

On average, if you as a buyer pay or expect the market value (even if new), the seller is usually taking a bath on eBay. This invariably makes it easier to swallow for business who purchase from the manufacturer at 50-75% MSRP, since they are moving volume. They can eat 5-10% of the market price and still make it work. If you as a private seller paid market price, you only get about ~85% of fair market price when you try to sell on eBay. As a result prices go up.

Then the "junk" dries up and Sally-Non-Hobbyist-Seller picks up a lot of stuff from an estate sale or some other process and decides to sell on eBay. Ebay tells he/her/they/them "other sellers have this at @$$tronomical price, you should too" perpetuating the algorithm of the inflated price.

And that is why you should never buy on eBay. Again.
