Price increases definitely are no good.
Maybe that is the reason why Atlas choose to go with the "other" manufacture on the new SD45. Some people are saying they are fed up and will quit buying "X". Me I will just save more rubles.
To each their own.
YMMV

That's true, but you make it back when you start selling the new stock at the new price.  You bought that old stock at the old price.  So selling it at the old price keeps your profit the same on each item.  And when you buy new stock at the new price, then you sell it at the new price then you make the same profit you used to make. The increase in the cost of the new stock is covered by your new increased selling price.  There is a period when you have a little less because you're buying new stock on the old stock's profits but it all evens out when the old stock is gone and you are selling only new stock.

Not that this really matters to me because the items I wanted either were sold out so there was no old stock or are new and never before available so again, no old stock.

I think what you're missing is that the bigger pot of money to purchase new stock doesn't magically appear at the end of the rainbow.

I hesitated too long and didn't pull the trigger on an order from YD, now they show the increased pricing as well.

This is it for me on ESU decoders (and I was one of their biggest fans). Not going to play along. a $10 increase is ridiculous.

Inflation is a fact of life. ZIMO is also pricey. What will you use instead?

When I use up what's left of what I have on-hand, I'm done with installs. I have a sizable fleet of sound units as it is, but I had a number of Kato's left to do with the newer Kato board. Not going to get done now. Might sell the Kato's.

I've pretty much been priced out of the hobby anyway. Everything has pretty much gone way beyond what I'm willing to pay. In this case, I won't pay $100 for something that probably doesn't cost more than $20 to manufacture. Time to get off the crazy train of inflation and just run and enjoy what I already have.

I think this animosity towards ESU for a price increase is unfounded. It is NOT ESU's fault that inflation is rampant, they along with their vendors need to make a profit to continue making superior products. Just for comparison's sake the decoders until recently have been the same price for 4 years now at 89 dollars and now they are 99 dollars. That is an 11.2% increase and guess what inflation is since 2019, 17.02% most of which came in the last 18 months!!! So the increase in price doesn't even cover the inflationary decrease of dollars buying power. ESU is making less percentage wise in 2023 then they were in 2019 even with a price increase. Most likely, ESU is just matching the pricing of their closest functional competitor, Soundtraxx, which has been more expensive for some time now. My bet is Soundtraxx will have a price increase soon as well.
Does this situation suck? Absolutely! No one likes paying more for stuff, and then there's the psychological factor of 99 dollars functionally being 100. It's a threshold that no one wants to breach.
