Trucks and wheel sets

Tom:  Interesting, and the C&EI books should be correct.  I was going by what I heard from railroaders on the BN in the 1970s, none of whom were in the mechanical department.  Since there were still a lot of 50-ton cars around, I just took their word for it.

Just out of curiosity, if "The majority of the 70 ton trucks" were 5'8", what were the rest of them?

On the 70 ton trucks, I'm not sure. I noted one car class as 5'10", 70 ton, the rest as 5'8".  I was rapidly going through pages, and may have just confused a car with 100 ton trucks for one with 70 ton trucks as I was taking notes. But as is evident in my previous posts, I am something of a novice in the skill of freight truck identification- so I figured best to hedge my bets.

Your memory is better than mine.  I had several conversations with railroaders in the 1970s, but don't remember any of the specifics.

My father worked for the railroad, so I met more people there than most teenagers would have.  Even so, if I'd known I'd be modeling that period 50 years later, I'd have asked a lot more questions, and taken more notes.
