The picture does not show it well. They are red. IIRC that is a Trainworx 86 ft. car next to it. That is the color it should be.

I don't know, it looks closer than the other comparison cars do.

From Southern.railfan.net

Here is one really close to delivery. [ Guests cannot view attachments ]

My first thought on opening the box was “pink?”

Even my wife thinks its wrong. I need to see one next to one of the nice HO models. I have seen those in person and thought their color was fine.

I have to agree with ya Spector3 - that color is just wrong.

Did these ever fade to that pinkish?  :o In any case, I am sure the intent was "as delivered".

I got in touch with Pat at Trainworx and he told me about his process to get the color and the people who  vetted it.  So with his research I believe this color to be as delivered. Now how it has faded and been repainted by Southern over years gives rise to a color I was expecting to receive. So despite his kind offer to take them back I am going to keep them and add this to my “proven reality trumps 40 yr old memory” list. A big “thank you” to Pat and Trainworx for humoring me and letting me know their process to put out the most accurate model they could.
