Hi folks!

New: Trabant 601!
The Trabant 601 (1964-1990) is a further development of the Trabant P50 and, in addition to a slightly modernized body, had a lot of old technology on board, such as the two-stroke engine. Because the government offered hardly any room for further developments, the Trabant 601 fell further and further behind. In the GDR, however, this was the most accessible car. In the end, almost 3 million copies were built. The models shown are accurate replicas of the Trabant 601 as it was built between 1980 and 1990. Various kits are available, also with the boot lid or hood open.
The model consists of two unpainted parts. This makes it possible to paint the model in a good way or to adjust it if necessary.

N2661 - SET Holiday fun!



Camping was very popular in the GDR. In addition to the well-known Trabant 601, the roof tent was a common solution for simple and comfortable camping. In this SET a couple appears to be having a lot of fun in the tent. This SET is a happy accessory on your model railway.
The model consists of three unpainted parts. This makes it possible to paint the model in a good way or to adjust it if necessary. Superglue is recommended.

Hi all!

As a novelty I would like to present the Trabant 601 again. This time it is the first version of this series (1964-1969). The following changes have been made to the model: other bumpers, hubcaps, radiator grille with the old logo, different steering wheel and of course the headrests have been removed. The models have remained true to scale and authentic!

LOL!  No kidding!  That 2-stroke 2-cylinder engine was not very reliable.  My uncle had one of those cars, and I remember it dying when we were driving to our vacation destination.  As I recall, little spark plug electrode cleaning (using my aunt's nail file) got it running again.  Fun times!

Yes, Trabant did have bluish looking exhaust with a distinctive odor.  The closest you can experience it now is smelling exhaust of one of the gasoline-powered landscaping equipment (like a leaf blower?) where you mix oil into gas.   There was also a Polish-made car called "Syrena" with a 2-stroke engine. It was nicknamed "skarpeta" ("sock" in English) due to its stinkin' exhaust.

Peteski:  Cleaning and regapping spark plugs used to be common practice on American cars as well.  I don't know if it's the plugs or the fuel, or both, that has improved since the 60s.
