As I recall, they did it before with the traction tire driver about 10 years ago, and it was no accompanied by a new release of the Mikado.  Kudos to them for making the traction tire driver again, they are out of stock most places.

I'm also pleasantly surprised about this since the Mikado has not been produced for many years.

I'll bet there's a Japanese model that takes the same traction tire part

AFAIK, no.   Most JNR stuff in the 63-64" range uses disk drivers.

Oops - I misread the item description.  I thought it was just the tire that was coming back in stock, not the entire driver assembly!  Amazing!
