Been working a little this week on solving the issue of posting iPhone HDR videos to Youtube.  The main issue being Youtube can't natively do this and can only post the SDR version which washes everything out.

Youtube does have an executable that creates the correct file headers to upload to Youtube, but I need to play around with the settings as it's still nothing close to close to how good the video is when cast to my TV.

Here's a comparison.

SDR

~HDR

There are some higher end video editing programs like Premier Pro that are supposed to be able to post HDR to Youtube, but I don't have access to those right now.

A quick 2500km round trip drive a fortnight ago from Adelaide across to Goulburn, New South Wales, for the 'down under' Streamliners 22 event. On 2 October 2022, former Victorian Railways S303 takes centre stage on the turntable. Most of the locos in the shot are still operational either in regular service or in preservation.

to paraphrase Col. Kurtz "..the yellow...........the yellow"

is that something mandated for visibility, or as part of a "family" continuity thing?

Wes,
That is a great pic of the turntable and the engines. What a nice collection of liveries. Did you use a drone to capture that image? Glenn

I made a duplicate post, about Wes' picture of the turntable and I don't see a way to delete it. Would a moderator please delete the second one. Thanks, Glenn

That is a good question regarding the yellow. Most of the locos in the image got their yellow bits long before anyone had brought in conspicuity mandates. These days I'm not sure if they are mandates or just recommendations - one mainline operator insists on painting their locos all over yellow - not a UP yellow, but some overly insipid shade of yellow. Other incorporate some yellow into their liveries, but there are quite a few exceptions. The only one of these that could be considered a modern paint scheme us the silver, red and yellow loco  where the yellow is not dominant.

As for glenng6's question, yes it is a drone shot - a DJI Mini SE - still getting the hang of it, but great fun.

Wes - great shot .. I find it interesting the amount of commonality Australian railroads have with the US railroads . at least motive power wise .. we are certainly two countries with a lot in common :)

The porthole placement is off, l wonder if it was accidental or serves some other purpose.

That was true up until the 1970s, but from then on as far as carbody design, unfortunately, Australia went its own way. Current day designs are pretty insipid. However, a lot of the internals are still heavily influenced by US practice and the majority remain either GE or EMD.

The porthole placement is off, l wonder if it was accidental or serves some other purpose.
While externally there are similarities these weren't production-line F7s or E8s, but were built to fit Australian loading gauge. In fact the loco in the foreground is considered essentially an SD9 with a cab unit body. So I can only assume the portholes were set up to suit the realigned dimensions. It can't be seen in the pic, but the yellow loco in the centre  is a four motor and only has three portholes, while the six motor on the turntable has four portholes.
