New camera keeps in focus everything between 3 cm and 1.7 km   :D

I saw that on a science news site and wondered how long it would be before a model railroader got hold of one.

How is this different from a Lytro?
There's a shyness found in reason
Apprehensive influence swallow away
You seem to feel abysmal take it
Then you're careful grace for sure
Kinda like the way you're breathing
Kinda like the way you keep looking away

One of the great things about model railroading is the complete appropriation of high-tech to preserve ancient history.

Biggest example is rapid prototyping, but also include everything back to carrier control, transistor throttles, DCC, LED adaptations, photo and video breakthroughs, metallurgy and precision machinery, etc.

My software engineering son is always amused by model railroaders rapid adaptation of high-tech in a practical sense, he's been astounded over all things DCC with sound in N scale.   He fully expects me to regularly show the next appropriation of high-tech I'm tinkering with.

I'm still hanging on to an older Canon digital camera because it can easily run to F11 with a macro lens, or shoot wide angle to get the depth of field down without post-processing.   It needs replaced, but that F11 feature still shoots better depth of field than anything more modern than I've found without resorting to stacking.   I go back to pinhole cameras on a 35mm Argus here.....
