Looks like the big boy is going to be dual motor
Which ever side of the track I am on is the right side.

Looks like tiny 7mm coreless motors with huge cone shaped flywheels.

Could be the development needed to be copied for a 2-10-0 Russian from some manufacturer .

That dual motor could with 2 pick ups create prototypical non-syncrinity at times that articulateds had .

Yes, this was discussed at length on an earluer Kato  Big Boy thread.
But  that would need 2 sound decoders installed.  The "going out of sync" effect can be simulated in a decoder in a loco with a single motor.  In N scale as long as the number of cuffs per driver revolution is correct, the exact timing of the chuffs as related to the position of the siderods is nto really that apparent or important.   That type of sync is only achievable by using a cam.

Unfortunately @robert3985 will be disappointed that both engines swivel.

Those look  to me like the same motors Kato  used in FEF3, the new N scale critters, several Japanese prototype steam locos, and in H0 P42 locos (in the trucks).

No worse than consisting two separate locomotives.  Kato usually does a really nice job on their steamers, so I'd reserve judgment until they arrive.

Well, if they didn't, you'd have to move everything back from the track for clearance, because that boiler would stick out even worse on corners.  :scared:

Seems like it would be easier for Robert3985 to fix the rear engine in-place than for everybody else to make a fixed-rear engine swivel.  I'm with Kato on this one.

It is not that simple due to where the swivel is on the *FRONT* engine (between 3rd and 4th driver).  For realistic arrangement to work the front engine's pivot would have to be behind it.  I have a Sakatsu brass Bob-Boy which is designed that way.  The rear engine is affixed to the boiler, and the front engine swivels (with the swivel point behind the back of the front engine).

Yeah, I see that makes sense for the model designer to change the swivel point to minimize overhang on sharp curves.  I guess Robert will just have to live with it unless he is really motivated to make the change.
