Wirrappa Landscape 1 by Bingley Hall, on Flickr

The bottom of the grade at Wirrappa, South Australia, and eastbound Pacific National intermodal service 6PM7 has just passed on the mainline through the crossing loop at this location on 3 October 2021. The salt pans here are a favourite phot spot, but the semi-desert landscape has changed a bit in the last few weeks with a year's rainfall (200mm) being dumped in 24 hours.

What's the cable close to the water line?  Fiber Optic?  A smaller versions of the washouts we had here in Western Canada in November 2021.

I'm not sure about the wire, but I'm assuming its fibre optic.

The damage was probably not as spectacular as Western Canada, but there were 18 separate washaways over 300 route kilometres. When it reopens next week the East West transcontinental route will have been closed for three and a half weeks.
