I polished the parts with 2000 grit sandpaper already, by the way.

Try this to finish the polish. I use these to get a mirror shine on my watches if they get scratched.

There's a shyness found in reason
Apprehensive influence swallow away
You seem to feel abysmal take it
Then you're careful grace for sure
Kinda like the way you're breathing
Kinda like the way you keep looking away

I don't know what would be ideal about polishing with sandpaper, but I used up to 4000 grit on my car before it was buffed. And I just read there is 60000 grit sandpaper  :o

I have some 3000 grit in my stash.  If I really need to, I can use that.  But the 2000 grit + rubbing with the pencil really seems to have it running well.  60,000 ???  That would be like rubbing with a piece of paper... LOL!

I've heard of using paper to polish, so maybe that's all it is.

Well paper is wood fiber, so it must have some grit to it. Some of the finer grits I have are less paper and more like plastic sheets or vellum.

For polishing the plastic side of the rubbing surfaces, I would use https://www.webstaurantstore.com/novus-pn-7033-2-oz-plastic-polish-2-fine-scratch-remover/448PN7033.html .  I use that for making clear plastic surface scratches disappear when it needs to be nicely see-through.
