Anybody used K4decals.com?

The CMR thread got me surfing around looking for other decal makers and I came across this outfit. They have some stuff that's highly relevant to my interests and was wondering if anyone here had ever tried them out?

I bought some. Have I used them? Of course not! I know the service was good, but that's all I know.

Yes!  and I was pretty pleased with the results (of course, I was already pleased just to have some new NKP decals to play with).

I also used parts of their NKP off-set hopper set for these black hoppers (reporting marks, car numbers and dimensional data)


I did find that the film had some difficulty holding tight to the hopper ribs.

I used them on this car. I don't remember having any issues applying them using the normal methods.

Done 20 tank cars with them and my only gripe is that you need to use water to set them instead of Micro-Set and to be quick to transfer them from the water/backing onto the model. Otherwise they are great and very thin, so no visible raising of the decal. Would recommend!

I've also bought and used some.  My experience has been that they work fairly well- they are "softer" than Micro-scale, which has some upsides in terms of getting them to set, but they have to be handled carefully when sliding them off the paper or they "stretch" and I ended up with bubbles in cases where I was heavy handed.  And per GhengisKong above, go with warm water and leave the MicroSet on the shelf.

The one downside I have had is that 2 sheets of decals were translucent- although sheets for other roadnames were opaque.  It may be that this was on purpose for faded, weathered appearance, but nothing on their website or the decal instructions indicated this was the case.  And for my purposes, I needed them to be opaque- or at least more opaque than they were. Meanwhile, the multi-color "Packerland Packing" decals were beautiful and went on perfectly. I will probably order more decals from them over time, but will be checking on the "opaque-ness". especially for white lettering.

Yes I have. I have no complaints except that the P&LE 100 ton open hopper decals they offer had a noticeable size difference to the artwork on the Atlas car. I have no idea which is closer to being correct for the prototype car. I was hoping to be able to renumber the many duplicates I have of the Atlas car with these. Hard to hold that against them. I did have to work on the spacing for the Z&W  decals as they were spaced out for the sides of early 1900's coal gondolas. Of course after snapping this photo I noticed a slight downhill slant and had to re-wet the decals to correct. They have several sets for turn of the century(1900) Ohio railroads which I find quite interesting and useful.

I have also done a couple cars with their decals, and had no trouble.   I don't use Micro-Set anyway, so can't say anything about that.  But using just water. then Solvaset to finish, worked fine for me.
