2021 Altoona N Scale Weekend

I'm bummed to share the update I just made for Mike: https://www.n-scaleweekend.com/

All of the venues around keep falling through so he's punting to 2022.

Sucks I won't get a chance to see many of you there this year.

Someday...

I had just checked that site yesterday and was overjoyed to see that it was still on for this year.My timing, as always, is impeccable.  :|

Sorry man!

I know, I'm really bummed too.

I'm thinking that maybe we should all plan some sort of Railwire Vaxication for HSC around that time of year. Something nice and outdoors so we don't have to bring Super Soakers full of hand sanitizer.

Oh crap!  I was just talking to a club member 6 hours ago that I am so looking forward to Altoona!  Especially with the new venue in Bedford.  Sigh....!!!  :(

MARPM is still on for September at this point.  Some prototype based TTrak modules could make an appearance, ya think?

Time for N scale Gettysburg !

Given Mike's troubles finding a local venue... you might actually want to reach out to him with that idea.

I thought Mike already had a venue locked in for 2021; did the original venue fall through?

Yes he did have a place but they, like many business , no longer exists.  Mike had been trying to find another venue, but his last potential for a 2021 event, with the Covid-19 still an uncertainty, formally turned him down for this year.  Its is pencilled in for 2022.  He should know for sure in January 2022.

If Mike is listening, I will state my preference for ALTOONA, AKA Pennsylvania's Disneyland.

We all would. The big challenge is finding a place to hold it.

The Blair County Convention center is right next door to the Marriot, which does, I believe, have a bar.

The Convention Center hosted a local train show two weeks or so ago, and it was well attended.  However, when I looked into that location for a possible MER Convention several years ago, it was too pricey for us.

But given the current circumstances, perhaps reduced rates are available.

Although Gettysburg has a lot of potential too. Since it's a day trip from several major cities, it could reduce attendees' hotel costs, meaning more $$ for those gotta-have purchases.  8)

Revisiting this topic, seeing a post on Facebook reminded me of it.  The Allstar Events Complex holds a lot of groups/events throughout the year.  Gun shows, civil war collectable shows, tattoo expos, motorcycle gatherings to name a few, and they always return so something must work there.  While rail traffic thru Gettysburg is limited to 1 train a day in each direction, short drives to Hagerstown, Greencastle, Harrisburg, Lancaster, and Baltimore/Washington provide better railfanning experiences.   Strasburg, East Broad Top, Walkersville & Southern are all within driving distance as well for scenic excursion trips etc.

I bet I could find a parking lot next to the tracks someplace in town. Maybe I'll just bring my folding tables, a car battery, set up my layout and my N scale for sale. Y'all stop by and have a look.
