prototypes for n-scale horns

This might get kicked over to the prototype section.
But, I was curious if anyone knows (or is there a posted reference)on the names (Leslie, Nathan etc...) and types (RS3L, K5Ls. etc...).
of the Horns used on the Atlas BXX-7s, Dash 8's or the KATO U30C/C30-7s, SD's. models.

I have done a lot of online searching, but havent found much of anything.. :? :|
Would help to match the sound on a Sound-equipped loco to the model at hand.. (Haven't gone to sound just yet... :P)

There is a site that can help you identify what is what, in terms of prototype horns, which you can then visually match to the model ones.  Note that in most of the captions, there is an mp3 link so you can also hear them.

http://www.dieselairhorns.com/collection.html

Note, that is an http and not https address.  My browser just flashes me a warning that the site is "not secure" but I understand some folks are having issues over that now and then.

Beyond that site, you may want to consult historical societies for the road(s) you are modeling- for which horns the road uses on a given loco (and in some cases, this varies over time), as items like horns can be road specific.  Horns on models are usually among the easier things to change out- in case the horns included with a mass produced model are not correct for your specific road.  Luckily, nowadays, some model manufacturers pay attention to such details, so they may have done that part for you.

Thanks for the reply... ;)

I have been waiting (never will happen) that Atlas might release any "Sound" BXX-7s.  But it is unlikely they will ever make any BXX-7s again...

I haven't looked into the details of sound decoders of recent.  But, remembered hearing some years ago, that these came with multiple horn options.
And that one could "download/upload" the appropriate sound for the horn on hand...

As far as the models go.  I was just curious if the manufacturers, just slapped on a "generic" type or if they did a little research...
Some of us "DO LIKE" these details...  :D

Thanks again....

P.S.
On that "Not Secure" warnings...
I get that when I go on KATO's website.  :o
And occasionally on Atlas's... :o
Don't know if its google or my provider...  :|

My personal approach is a bit different.

Model companies make horns.  Period.
Sometime they are right for your road, and sometimes not.

I live in CSX territory.

And for many years there were only about two kinds of sounds that I would regularly hear:  a three chime horn and a five chime horn.

So when I run my sound system. I program it for the correct CSX sounds I would hear- not the horn on the actual model.

Here is something I have kept in my files.  The horn name, the actual notes, and railroads that used them.

I have to wonder about the M5. Maybe they were on some merger inherited locos? Maybe some of the NKP and WAB modelers can "chime in" here.  :D

I believe the horns on the EX-VGN FMs were Wabco.

Nearly all locos that N&W ordered new were equipped with the Leslie RS-5T-RF 5-chime horn. Following the NS merger, some of the Leslies were indeed replaced with Nathan M5s as time went on.

N-scale magazine, March 1995, ha?

Forgot to look there...  I DO have the N-Scale mags on CDs/DVDs.
Will have to dig that up...

Thanks...
