Although where the plates are extra large, they can be readily seen, the "normal" tie plates are hardly there, as I suspected when looking at my dozen frets.
You can see in that linked image how easy it is for those tieplates to become lost, esp. if painted a color close to that of the ties.
In any case, too bad the layout didn't get finished. I would have really liked to have seen the rest of your trackwork, as this example is very nice indeed!
...the p87 spikes are too big to fit into the C40 tieplate holes... But a spike in N scale would have to be something like 0.006" square cross-section, and would be crazy hard just to pick up with a precision tweezer.
I think printing the plate and spike details directly onto the ties will give better results with far less effort.
