Cornfields

I posted this question in the Weekend Update, but it doesn't belong there.  Question: has anyone painted Bluford Shops corn with a color that they were happy with?  I'll follow the lead of Spookshow in applying paint to the tassels, but how about the stalks?  Out of the box, the stalks look (not suprisingly) too much like green plastic.  Any advice?  Thanks!

Bob, I can't give advice on painting the stuff, but I think that changing the subject line to "Blueford Shops Cornfields painting techniques" (or similar) might be helpful to get responses.  IMO, making the subject line as informative as possible (in a one-liner) improves chances of getting useful replies. "Cornfields" is a bit nebulous.

I used a light coat of Model Master Olive Drab in a rattle can which toned down the bright green plastic.  Sadly, I believe that is one of the Model Master products that is gone now.  I also painted the tassles with a straw yellow craft paint. Time consuming but worth it.
Best regards,

Roger

THanks Roger - I'll see if I can find this or something similar.  There are so many shades of green I thought I would see what others have tried.

Bob, I have built 2 boxes of the cornfields and yes I painted at darker green and the stock looked too light and plastic. Once glued all the section together I "dry brushed" to top of the stalks with a poly S reefer yellow, I think it looks good. Do not leave stock color!!! Gordon

I painted my first field using Tamiya "Park Green", but then they changed the formulation to a lighter shade that wasn't all that different from the stock color of the corn. So, I switched to Testor's "Gloss Green" (pretty much the only dark green my LHS had on hand at the time). Dullcote to finish things off.

I think a slightly lighter shade of green would probably look more correct, but I decided this was good enough.
