Jeff's right.  For my BN layout, the CB&Q ordered 4600s, as much of their grain went east, where clearances were tighter.  The GN and NP ordered 4650s, as most of their grain seems to have gone west, or to the Great Lakes, and the taller cars weren't a problem.  Being shorter, they could also fit more cars in a train, and still fit the passing tracks.

Interesting ... back east N&W bought 4650s and 4600s.

The difference is only a few inches, so I doubt that there are many paces that a 4650 couldn't go.  For some reason the CB&Q liked to stick with Plate B cars.  They were the same way with boxcars.

ACCUMATES??? EW!!!!!!!!!!

Accumates work great for me on swap ins to body mount Atlas and Athearn boxes.  Their bad reputation seems to stem mostly from truck mounts.
