@Sokramiketes and @peteski thanks for that info. 

On the locos and cars I've painted I've been using Acetone and have been quite happy.  That doesn't mean they look good , haha.  Maybe I just have lower standards.... but seriously I do think they look pretty good.

That said I'm not opposed to buying the actual thinner if it makes a better model.  Contrary to what you have seen, I don't WANT to paint my models multiple times. 

Peteski I'm the same as you.  I add thinner until it feels right and my experience with paints changing viscosity over their life in the bottle has led me to the belief that even the recommendation on the bottle is just a suggestion. Every paint job IS an adventure.... sometimes its FOUR adventures!

 I put the finishing touches, including a decoder, lighting, and couplers on the B36-7 today.

The ditch lights are my own castings. Years ago I made RTV molds of the porch mounted ditch lights on an Intermountain CN SD40-2w. Lots of Canadian locos have these, or are exCN. They look like a search light on a stick. I embed an 0402 LED in the mold and fill it with clear epoxy.







And with that this train is officially complete!

I’ve been working on this train off and on for about 15 years so it feels great to finish it. I’ll be running it tomorrow at a train show!

Holy smokes - you must have been majorly distracted to forget that you had your most recent masterpiece in tow!   
No worries … just something else to look forward to seeing in action (and hopefully in person) someday soon.

Hahaha we were halfway through tearing down the layout when Craig shouts out, "I forgot to run the RMC!!!" 

To be fair, he did bring 4 or 5 equally unique and well executed trains to run as well.

There’s was so much going one there that was awesome. It was hard to stay focused on anything. I needed another day there. I didn’t even get over to see the HO layout….. or have lunch.
